A new home for creators in downtown Reykjavík
Hafnar.haus is a place for people that look for space to set sail on their journey as painters, developers, designers, musicians, writers, entrepreneurs and all the other things that make life interesting.
A unique location
Office, art studio, or coworking space? Hafnar.haus has got it for you. A place that’s more than just a desk, but a home for ideas and a harbour of opportunity.
Only work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Hafnar.haus is a place for your imagination, with an exciting programme of exhibitions, concerts and other events.
Become part of a community of 100+ creators and creatives of all kinds. Hafnar.haus is a place where a polar bear can meet a penguin, where young professionals flourish alongside weathered professionals.
The City of Reykjavik provides the building and is partnering with a founding team that has made blockbuster Hollywood movies, founded companies that are listed on Nasdaq, held exhibits at MoMA, won BAFTAS and gotten Grammy nominations. Sorry about that list but we need you to know we are important people doing important things. That’s important for you to know. Important.
Anyway, we are Davíð Helgason (founder of Unity and Foobar), Elísabet Ronaldsdóttir (film editor), Haraldur Thorleifsson (founder of Ueno), Magnea Einarsdóttir (clothing designer), Melanie Ubaldo (artist), Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir (Of Monsters and Men), Ólafur Arnalds (musician), Paul Bennett (Chief Creative Officer and Co-CEO IDEO), Ragnar Kjartansson (artist), René Boonekamp (creator).
How do I become a member?
If that’s you, send in an application form. A committee of 5 people, consisting of board members of hafnar.haus and city officials will decide whether your application will be approved. Applications will be judged on several criteria, among other; the connection to the creative industries, diversity of members and whether your intended operations fit in the hub.
Can I get a tour?
Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll find a time.
What do I need to bring?
This is a DIY space. There are no desks or chairs, or plants, no beer on tap, it’s a blank canvas for you to fill, together with the other members of the space.
